How Te Waa came to be
In 2017 the leadership of three churches, Village Baptist and Arohanui Christian Centre in Havelock North, and Pirimai Baptist Church in Napier, felt God calling them to extend their ministries to meet the practical needs of their communities. There was a strong sense that God wanted the churches to work together, so after much discussion, prayer, planning and legal work, Te Waa was formed.
Te Waa, meaning "the place", was established in 2019, the culmination of that two-year journey.
Since then Te Waa has become a ministry of Village Baptist Church, and we remain thankful for the part Arohanui and Pirimai played in its beginnings. Our focus now is on practical services for the community. We partner with Christians Against Poverty (CAP) through the Havelock North Debt Centre, helping whānau find a way out of debt, and we provide hands-on help around the home through our Helping Hands ministry. The heart behind it has not changed: sharing Jesus’ love with our community, with practical help and spiritual hope going together.
